The center of the universe
In the XV century AD, the Aztecs built the Templo Mayor, in the sacred precinct of Tenochtitlan, which they considered to be the most important of their temples and which, according to their cosmovision, constituted the center of the universe. After the Spanish conquest, in 1521, this magnificent Temple was partially destroyed and its ruins remained hidden under colonial buildings for more than four centuries.
Nowadays, the vestiges of the Templo Mayor can be visited by the public and are the most important testimony of the most powerful people that existed in the American continent before the arrival of Hernán Cortés. In this tour you will visit the remains of the Templo Mayor that have been preserved and the site museum, which was installed next to the old temple and which gathers the pre-Hispanic objects found in the Historic Center during more than three decades of explorations.
